Clinton, Obama and the Bad Guys

Dr. Louis Frayser

Over the past several days, Sen. Barack Obama has taken fire from political pundits and from other presidential candidates for forthrightly, forcefully and unambiguously stating his views and intentions with respect to Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan as well as Syria, Iran, Venezuela and Cuba. He was also clear when he stated that when elected he would immediately direct the military brass to plan an orderly and safe withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. Sen. Clinton immediately attacked Sen. Obama as "irresponsible" and "nave" in his statements, emblematic of inexperience. This response of Sen. Clinton raises an important question for her: how would you characterize your vote to authorize the war in Iraq without having a clue as to how you get out? Could your vote be accurately described as "irresponsible and nave"? Did your vote result from wisdom gained from your vast political experience? If so, experience does not serve you well.

Sen. Obama has demonstrated several very, very important characteristics:

1. He is willing to trust the American people with the truth of himself and his views.
2. He refuses to engage in artful concealment of his positions and intentions.
3. In his intent to tall to the "Bad Guys", Sen. Obama shows that he understands that is wise whenever possible to have your enemy at your elbow and in full view, not left in hiding to plot and execute evil against us.
4. That he intends to lead us and not avoid and mislead us.
5. That he does not come before the American people sputtering endless "ifs, ands, maybes". He does come to us saying this is who I am, this is what I think and why, this is what I will do. Judge me accordingly.

Leadership is not a felony. It is formed from insight, courage, strength, brilliance, the capacity to lead and the will to trust the people with the truth. The inability to lead appears to be an infirmity born of experience.

Choose Wisely, America! Choose Wisely!
